Weezer - Say It Ain’t So

Such a shame that Weezer broke up in ‘97 and never reformed. Yep, shame they couldn’t continue to release entertaining music into the present. So sad they they disbanded after releasing only 2 albums, never to re-form. *cough*

About 25 years ago, a slowly-rising tide claimed the Argentine town of Epecuen, once a lakeside village that saw tens of thousands of tourists each year.

Now, the water has receded, revealing a ghost town where walls tumbled over, cars rusted away and trees, still standing, were bleached by the sun and saltwater.

And Epecuen is, of course, a tourist attraction again.

“The last stage of coping sets aside the skepticism entirely and just says it outright: Young people really are on our side. “They are perpetually telling you in the media that young people are supporting same-sex marriage,” Brown said at one point. “I’m gonna tell you something: That is not true.” Never mind the Pew study that just last week found that 70 percent of adults born after 1981 support marriage equality. Brown had something more powerful than a scientific survey; an anecdote. Specifically: Grace Evans, an 11-year-old from Minnesota who became the next great hope of the anti-equality movement earlier this month when she testified before the Minnesota legislature in opposition to same-sex marriage. Evans, after explaining why her parents were awesome, posed a question to the lawmakers: “Which parent do I not need—my mom or my dad?””

- If Grace Evans had two moms or two dads, perhaps that question would actually make sense. Banning some couples from legal union does require the state to ask their children which parent they don’t (legally) need. Plain and simple.

This is an awesome little prototype of (i.e. experiment for) a single-purpose telepresence device. As he says, the idea is to make a “domestic” (I imagine a toaster when I hear this word) device that is a window — less about short video calls and more about constant connection — from one place to another. You have a control for setting filters, one for setting a still photo instead of live video, and a sliding tab to connect with the other person. There’s also a sliding “curtain” to hide the video of the other end.

It’s pretty cool, even if it is rather impractical.
